"By the time I was in high school, I knew that I wanted to be a basketball coach
and all the decisions I made from that point on were dedicated to fulfilling that
desire.  As other young coaches, I did all that I could do in order to learn from
the best.  Reading information, watching videos, attending clinics from
renowned coaches like Coach K, Coach Knight, Coach Pitino, Coach Williams
as well as others to numerous to list were the avenues I utilized.

Although I will always be grateful to the contributions of others towards my
basketball education, there came a time when I realized that their system did
not always fit my coaching situation.  Even though there are many basketball
principles that apply at all levels from youth to professional, there are still many
elements that will not pertain to every level.  I realized that these men were able
to either draft or recruit certain types of players to fit their system.  What
happens when there are limitations that prevent you, as a coach, from making
that work?  These can include resource limitations, philosophical limitations,
and time limitations to name just a few.  There are many coaching situations
where the competitive playing field is not level.  In order to remain competitive
and insure that each of my teams reach its full potential, I found that flexibility
and adaptability were critical" - Ken Brooks
